It is used for the treatment, control, prevention, & improvement of the following diseases, conditions and symptoms:
- Male infertility
- Testosterone deficiency
Mechanism of Action and Pharmacology
- Increasing the production of male hormone.
DRUG DESCRIPTION
Proviron is an orally applicable androgen, and DHT derivative. It is sold under the brand name Proviron, by Schering. It is a relatively weak androgen and rarely used for replacement therapies.
DOSAGE
Reduced efficiency in middle & advanced age due to androgen deficiency 1 tab tid. After satisfactory clinical improvement try to reduce the dose. Treatment may be continued to 1 tab once daily or bid. Hypogonadism Max: 1-2 tab tid for several mth. Maintenance dose: 1 tab 2-3 times daily. Infertility for the improvement of sperm quantity & quality 1 tab bid-tid for about 90 days & repeated after at several week if necessary. Most patients
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Enhance activities of ciclosporine, antidiabetics, thyroxine, anticoagulants. Long term use of testosterone may cause resistance to effects of neuromuscular blockers. Enhance fluid retention from corticosteroids.
SIDE EFFECTS
Along with their useful effects, all medicines can cause unwanted side effects, which usually improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine. Speak with your doctor if any of the following side effects continue or become troublesome. Moreover, Headache, depression, feeling sick, changes in sexual desire, enlarged breasts (in men), anxiety, feeling of weakness, swollen ankles, increased hair growth, baldness, excessively oily skin, acne, pins and needles, erections may be more frequent and last longer, early puberty..
If you experience black, tarry stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), difficulty urinating or blood in the urine make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
In patients with carcinoma of the prostate, androgen therapy of any kind, including the use of Proviron, is contra-indicated.
